Zenith Goes Black And White With Defy

Sometimes the most common colors can have a very powerful impact when used in a watch. This is most certainly the case with the two new Defy models that Zenith just introduced. Both the Defy Classic and the Defy 21 are made in black and white and look more expressive than ever.

Zenith achieves this by fitting both watches with a black ceramic case that has been given a matte finish by microblasting it. To add some contrast is the bezel made out of white ceramic. Both watches have a skeletonized dial with white details above a mainly blackened movement. This gives the watches a very technical and contemporary look. The black and white theme is also incorporated in the strap. It has a base made from black rubber, while the white rubber on top has been given a Cordura texture. The strap is fitted with a comfortable double folding buckle made from titanium with a black DLC coating to stay in theme. Zenith also delivers these two models with an additional strap in black rubber to switch to when desired.

The watches themself, we know all too well. The Defy Classic Black & White measures 41mm in diameter and is fitted with caliber Elite 670 SK. This movement is made in the manufacture of Zenith, featuring automatic winding as well as an escape-wheel and lever in silicon. The skeletonized dial has a star motif, as a reference to Zenith’s logo. The Defy 21 Black & White is not only larger, with a diameter of 44mm, but also comes with Zenith’s legendary caliber El Primero 9004. This watch features two escapements, one running at 36,000 VpH/5 Hz for the time-keeping, while the one dedicated to the chronograph function runs at 360,000 VpH/50 Hz, which means that it can measure with 1/100th of a second precision. Both watches are also not afraid of water, as they are water-resistant up to 10 ATM. This combined with the light and scratch-resistant ceramic case results in a versatile watch that makes an impression with its powerful color combination.

The Defy 21 Black & White and Defy Classic Black & White are available exclusively at Zenith Boutiques and e-shop from August 31st, 2020. The Defy 21 Black & Whtie will retail for $13,600, while the  Defy Classic Black & White will cost $8,200.
