Watches And Wonders: Jaeger-LeCoultre Releases The Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater

Today at Watches And Wonders in Hong Kong, Jaeger-LeCoultre launched the Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater. The new timepiece features the brand’s first in-house minute repeater made specifically for women, with a thinner profile, a more feminine sound, and magnificent jewelry work.

The Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre has a rich history with the musical complication, having overseen the development and production of hundreds of minute repeaters. But this is the first time the Maison has made an in-house minute repeater specifically for women. Instead of working “on borrowed time,” with an earlier movement made for men, it required the development of a new movement, the Calibre 942A. This highly accurate automatic movement beats at a rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is fitted with a 43-hour power-reserve.

According to the brand, the melody played by the Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater is more feminine, and louder. The watch is fitted with two patented trebuchet hammers that strike two Crystal gongs connected to the sapphire crystal in unison, producing an enhanced loudspeaker effect.

The Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater watch is activated by a mono-pushpiece instead of the traditional trigger system, which explains its thinner profile. The brand also introduces a new safety system that avoids damaging the movement, whereby re-pressing the button once the minute repeater has already been set in motion won’t start it up again.

The brand has chosen ivy, a decorative motif already featured in previous collections, as a platform for its master craftsmen to express their artistry. And it’s also decided to stick with its diamond-setting strategy, previously seen in the Rendez-Vous Tourbillon Wild (see below).

The Rendez-vous Ivy Minute repeater boasts a total of 548 diamonds set on the watch, covering its lugs, sides, and even the crown, which is adorned with a delicate jewel. The watch is crafted in 18-carat white gold, and comes with a satin strap and water resistance to 30 meters.
