Watch Of The Week: The New TAG Heuer Carrera Tourbillon In Green
To be honest, I’ve always loved the color green in watches. A trend that we’ve seen evolve and popularize over the last several years, it’s safe to say the color green is not going anywhere in the horological world. Case in point: the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon that was just revealed at LVMH Watch Week in Miami.
While we’ve seen this teal green before in previous TAG Heuer watches like the Monaco and a Carrera from 2019 (the TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic Chronograph, 39 mm in steel, to be exact) the reintroduction of the teal green sets it as a defining color for the Carrera collection. This unique hue pays homage to the vintage green shades of racing cars during the golden era of motorsports from the 20s to the 60s, reflecting TAG Heuer’s racing heritage and infusing the collection with nostalgia.
Last year was certainly the year of the Carrera, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this watch in the LVMH Watch Week lineup — ultimately revealing that the Carrera craze wouldn’t die down just because we’re past the 60th anniversary. At the heart of this exceptional timepiece lies a mesmerizing tourbillon cage, positioned at 6 o’clock and encased within a glass frame. The tourbillon, a horological marvel perfected more than two centuries ago, continuously rotates to counteract the effects of gravity on the watch’s mechanical movement.
Remaining true to the Carrera’s heritage, this watch retains the iconic Glassbox design. The curved sapphire crystal not only enhances overall readability but also provides a panoramic view of the tourbillon from various angles, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship of TAG Heuer. The teal green circular brushed dial, teal green flange, rhodium-plated applied indexes, and deep azuré subdials surrounded by green rings contribute to the watch’s elegance, and the watch is complete with a black alligator strap.
