Haute Event: Jeweler Van Cleef and Arpels Sponsors American School of Ballet’s Winter Ball for Eighth Season
The School of American Ballet’s Winter Ball, sponsored by the legendary French jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels, set New York’s social scene on fire last night.
Attendees like Chelsea Clinton and Amanda Brotman gathered at the David H. Koch theatre in Lincoln Center and sipped cocktails, surrounded by amazing art, like the Jasper Johns that adorn Lincoln Center’s walls. The atmosphere was jovial and everyone was more than ready for a warm spring after suffering though New York’s arctic winter.
Models clad in black leotards and colored masks flanked the room modeling Van Cleef jewelry, and many a woman gawked at the diamond-encrusted pieces. At 8pm the group ascended the grand stairway to the ballroom festively decorated in bright fuchsia and tangerine theme by Ron Wendt Design.
Artistic director Peter Martins opened the gala event with a brief speech followed by a video showcasing the School of American Ballet students. After a dinner of Coca-Cola braised short ribs and carrot puree, there was a performance by the students followed by freestyle dancing.
