The great white shark is, without a doubt, a promising contestant for the title of most misunderstood animal on the planet. Portrayed in pop culture as a ruthless killer that preys on anything it can sink its teeth in, preferably humans, of course. Thanks to (non-profit) research organizations like OCEARCH, we can now paint an entirely different picture. It has given us insights into its advanced social behavior and intelligence, not to mention the critical part it plays in keeping the oceans’ ecosystem balanced and healthy.

Ulysse Nardin has been committed to preserving the world’s oceans for a long time, and in 2020 partnered with OCEARCH. This non-profit organization works to better understand the great white shark by catching and studying these imposing animals, after which they are tagged and released. The information that this generates is freely available to all who want to research this topic. To amplify the importance of the work of OCEARCH and mark their ongoing partnership, the latest brand ambassador of Ulysse Nardin is a 12 foot 4 inches long adult male great white shark, weighing 990 lbs. Named appropriately Ulysse, it was tagged in the North Atlantic Sea, now also contributing to the open-source databank of OCEARCH, which hopefully will lead to an even better understanding of these amazing predators.

To mark the occasion, Ulysse Nardin is launching a special edition of their Diver Chronograph. Limited to 300 pieces, it features a 44mm large case made out of titanium, with a highly legible dial to match. The signature uni-directional bezel features a white rubberized finish, matching the rubber strap. A cool detail is the profile of the great white shark incorporated in the strap in Super-LumiNova. The Diver Chronograph is water-resistant up to 300 meters and powered by Ulysse Nardin’s manufacture caliber UN-150. This consists out of 318 parts, including an escapement wheel, anchor, and balance spring in silicium, the innovative material in which Ulysse Nardin is one of the trailblazing forces. This makes the Diver Chronograph the perfect watch for the crews of OCEARCH, trying to catch great white sharks to increase our understanding of these animals, as well as watch connoisseurs committed to the cause.
