According to the Chinese zodiac, the year 2014 is the year of the horse. Hot on the heels of Jaquet Droz’s new Ateliers d’Art series, Ulysse Nardin has unveiled a tribute to the sign.

The Ulysse Nardin Classico Horse features a 40mm 18K rose gold case with an enamel champlevé horses motif dial. While the dial features the traditional hours, minutes and seconds, it also captures expansive plains and mountains in the background, while horses gallop in the foreground.

According to the manufacture, the dial was created using the intricate champlevé method where cells are carved with a chisel directly on the dial and filled with enamel. Its earth-tone palette of black, white, tan, gray and green is created from different metallic oxides, perfectly depicting the natural landscape and its small band of beautiful creatures. The piece is then fired until the enamel melts and is polished when the surface cools.

At the heart of this timepiece is the self-winding UN-815 movement, which is visible through a window on the sapphire crystal caseback. This piece has a 42-hour power reserve and COSC-certified chronometer.

This piece is completed by a leather strap with a rose gold tang buckle.
