The Piaget Polo Was Just Named The Most Iconic Watch In The World — Here’s Why
This just in: the Piaget Polo was just rated, by Google Trend searches, as the most iconic watch in the world — ahead of the Rolex GMT Master-II Ice and the Jacob & Co. Rasputin Tourbillon Full Baguette with White Diamonds. Throughout the last several months, upon keeping a close eye on the trends and industry shifts, I have to say; I am not that surprised that the Piaget Polo is at the top of the list.

Perhaps it’s the Polo’s “quiet luxury” or “understated elegance” — two terms that are trending incredibly high within the fashion and watch industry right now — that have deemed this watch the most iconic in the world, or maybe it’s the rich heritage of the timepiece that continues to set it apart. Watch Pilot has revealed its extensive research through its Celebrity Watch Index, providing further insight. Ahead, we’re taking a closer look at the intricacies of the legendary Piaget Polo.
With a rich history dating back to the late 1970s, the Piaget Polo was introduced in 1979 and designed to capture the essence of the sport of polo and reflect the elegance, sophistication, and dynamic lifestyle associated with it. The watch quickly became an iconic symbol of Piaget’s commitment to innovation, craftsmanship, and distinctive design. Revolutionary in its time, the Polo merged the worlds of fine watchmaking and high-end jewelry. It was known for its distinctive integrated bracelet, which seamlessly blended into the case of the watch, creating a harmonious and bold aesthetic. This design was not only visually appealing but also innovative in its construction.

Throughout the years, the Piaget Polo evolved to incorporate various technical advancements and design variations while still retaining its iconic style and DNA. In the 2000s, Piaget launched the Piaget Polo FortyFive, a sportier and more modern version of the classic Polo watch. This updated model featured a larger case size, robust materials like titanium, and additional functionalities such as chronographs and dual time zones. The Piaget Polo collection continued to expand with iterations like the Skeleton, Date, Perpetual Calendar Ultra-thin, and so on, with the different versions and limited editions catering to different tastes and preferences.

The most recent to date is the Piaget Polo Date in the incredibly sophisticated emerald hue. After the immense success of the black version, which debuted at Watches and Wonders in 2022, the new deep green shade casts a fresh perspective on the signature curves of the Polo’s shape-in-shape design, paying homage to the original polo fields and lively lawns of West Palm Beach, Florida. It was on these grounds that the Maison transformed the Polo World Cup into the Piaget World Cup in the Piaget Polo’s birth year of 1979.

In my opinion, the ultimate test in determining a legendary timepiece is the watch’s ability to transcend time and trends, adhering to its core design DNA while also exuding a modern appeal — and for me, the Piaget Polo passes this test.
