Over the last few years, we have seen a trend of ladies watches getting more and more complicated. With this, the watch brands fuel on one side the growing interest among women for these type of watches, while at the same time cater to those who are already ready to add such a watch to their own collection. Van Cleef & Arpels has built a reputation for creating very elegant watches with unusual complications, which they themselves refer to so nicely as poetic.

The 2018-edition of the Grand Prix D'Horlogerie De Geneve (GPHG), also known as the Oscar's of the watch world, took place last Friday evening, during a special Gala event. The line-up was imposing, and each of the winners represents without a doubt the best of their category.

Apparently, they make for the perfect combination, as especially in the high-end part of the watch world it is hard to find a ladies watch that is not adorned with diamonds. This clear connection makes it especially in the Western part of the world very difficult for brands to sell watches set with diamonds to men, even when placed on a more masculine watch. For women diamonds are almost a must yet the way the brands incorporate them into their designs greatly differs.

Let's be honest, with most ladies watches the focus is on the way they look, not on the way they function. A pity because it is a misconception that women don't care about the movements that power their watches. Many are equally enticed by the front of their watch, as what they find at the back.

Ladies watches have always played an important role in the Grand Prix D'Horlogerie de Geneve, or GPHG, and the upcoming edition is no exception.
