TAG Heuer And Porsche Announce Historic Partnership

Few watch brands have such a tight connection with the world of car racing as TAG Heuer. As this sport rose to new heights after World War II, Heuer, as the brand was called back then, was there on the journey with it. TAG Heuer has especially a special connection with Porsche. Not only share many watches their name with that of a Porsche, the brand also teamed up over the years prominent Porsche drivers such as Jo Siffert, who was very successful with the legendary Porsche 917. Later on, Steve McQueen would drive the same type of Porsche in perhaps his biggest movie ever; Le Mans. Here, not only would his overalls sport the Heuer logo, just as Siffert, but there was also a Heuer chronograph around his wrist. TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault has brought the two legendary names together again by forging a partnership with one of the world’s most prominent sports car manufacturers.

The first watch benefiting from this collaboration is the Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition. It is fitted with a black ceramic bezel engraved with the Porsche name and tachymeter scale, which gives the watch a dynamic character. The dial takes this cue and follows up with an interesting texture, which resembles asphalt. Instead of displaying the hours did TAG Heuer opt for the minutes in bold Arabic numerals, which create the idea of a speedometer. The subdials of the chronograph are black, with red details, making them very easy to read. The watch is available on a two-part calf leather strap, complete with hand stitching, or a sportive styled stainless steel bracelet.

Inside the 44mm case of the Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition, we find calibre Heuer 02. This in-house, automatic chronograph movement runs at 4 Hz/28,800 vph and has a generous power reserve of 80 hours. The chronograph function is controlled by a column wheel, which is given a red color to stand out even more among the rest of the movement parts. It can be admired through the see-through caseback of the watch. All combined is the Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition a very promising start of a unique and historic partnership that without a doubt will set a new standard for such collaborations within the industry.
