Piaget To Unveil 1960s-Themed Watch Collection For SIHH 2018

If there is an early trend showing itself in 2018 for luxury women’s watches, it’s that the oval shape is back in style. In pre-SIHH 2018 releases Cartier and now Piaget have released bejeweled timepieces that have interpreted this shape.

The sideways oval shape of the Piaget “Extremely Lady” timepiece has a bezel set with 24 round brilliant-cut diamonds with the petite dial made of mother-of-gold.

However, attracting even greater attention is the 18k pink-gold bracelet that showcases the luxury brand’s jewelry-making skills. It is hand-chiseled to replicate a soft textured finish that the luxury brand says resembles fur. It is powered by the in-house 56P quartz movement.

The Extremely Lady features a diamond-paved bezel, hand-crafted 18k pink gold bracelet and mother-of-pearl dial

The Extremely Lady takes its inspiration from luxury brand’s jewelry watches produced in the late 1960s, which feature oval shapes, colorful stone dials, gold crafted bracelets and gem-set bezels. It most closely reflects the Piaget watch worn by Jackie Kennedy Onassis, which had a green jade dial surrounded by a bezel set with round diamonds and four green tourmalines at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 hour markers. Finishing off the look was a fabric-like textured 18k yellow gold bracelet. The company said it was her watch of choice.

The Kennedy Onassis timepiece has become part of the Piaget heritage. In 2014 the Swiss company released several creations inspired by the watch. In January 2017, it released a special edition of the iconic watch to coincide with the release of the film, Jackie.

The first release of the Extremely Lady watch featured is the first release of the Piaget collection of the same name that will be unveiled at SIHH 2018. The luxury brand’s ambassador, Jessica Chastain, is pictured with the watches in the collection, which, like their predecessors, feature colorful stone dials.

For luxury brands such as Piaget, its heritage is often a primary driver for new models produced with the same hand-craftsmanship combined with modern technology. It’s just another example that when it comes to luxury, everything old becomes new again.

The Piaget Extremely Lady retails for $50,500.
