If there is one brand that has seawater running through its veins, it is Panerai. Throughout its history, the world’s oceans where its playground, and even today this strong connection continues. For some years now, Panerai has put its money where its mouth is and sponsored the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. Here the world’s oceangoing heritage, consisting of some of the most beautiful yachts ever conceived, still battle it out for the highest honor in challenging regattas.

To highlight this Panerai has launched the Luminor Yachts Challenge. This is a watch that comes in three varieties, all in the brand’s signature 44mm large Luminor case and fitted with caliber P.9100. It is fitted with an automatic movement which combines a flyback chronograph with a three-day power reserve. The pushers to operate the chronograph are conveniently located on the left side of the case, while the right is dominated by the instantly recognizable crown protection device.

The three watches are full of details referring to Panerai’s rich heritage, and an interesting one is that the tachymeter scale on the watches is in knots. Panerai offers the Luminor Yachts Challenge in titanium with a black dial and light blue details, on their signature rubber strap. On the dial, we find the letters ‘PCYC’ in reference to the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge.

The second watch in the collection offers a more technical look, with a case made out of ceramic, complemented by a back and buckle made from titanium with a black DLC coating. Just as its full titanium sibling, does also this version have the caseback engraved with the profile of a classic yacht such as participates in the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. The water resistance of these two watches is 100 meters.

The third and final version is also the most precision. This one combines a red gold case with a deep blue dial and is fitted with a matching blue alligator strap. Unlike the other two watches does this one have a see-through caseback in which the profile of the yacht is created through a special metallization process. This gives quite a stunning effect and offers the finishing touch on a trio of tempting watches that are a testimony of Panerai’s love for the sea and the vessels that sail on it.
