Louis Vuitton & Kari Voutilainen Collab On A New Horological Masterpiece
Louis Vuitton has once again redefined the art of haute horology with its latest collaboration, unveiling the LVKV-02 GMR 6. This timepiece, created in partnership with renowned independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen, represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and innovation. The new watch pays homage to Louis Vuitton’s legacy in travel while incorporating Voutilainen’s expertise in traditional Swiss watchmaking.

Kari Voutilainen’s workshop, known for its meticulous hand-crafted watches, brings an exceptional level of precision to this collaboration. Both Louis Vuitton and Voutilainen began their journeys in 2002, making this partnership even more meaningful. The LVKV-02 GMR 6 embodies the finest aspects of both brands, featuring a sophisticated design and impeccable artistry. This collaboration also supports independent watchmaking through the Louis Vuitton Watch Prize for Independent Creatives.
Inspired by Louis Vuitton’s heritage, the LVKV-02 GMR 6 is based on the latest Escale design, first introduced in 2024. The 40.5mm case is crafted from tantalum, an ultra-rare and corrosion-resistant metal, with platinum detailing. The lugs, back, and crown mirror the design elements of Louis Vuitton’s famous trunks, reinforcing the brand’s deep connection to travel. This exquisite combination of materials enhances the watch’s elegance while ensuring durability.
The case is a true work of art, with satin-finishing and polishing done entirely by hand. Each lug undergoes an hour-long finishing process, while the tantalum case side requires nearly four hours of meticulous hand-finishing. These intricate details elevate the watch’s aesthetic appeal, making it both a functional timepiece and a collector’s masterpiece. The case back is engraved with “Louis cruises with Kari,” symbolizing the spirit of collaboration and craftsmanship shared between these two legendary names.
The dial of the LVKV-02 GMR 6 is a masterpiece, showcasing the talents of both Louis Vuitton and Voutilainen. Crafted in four parts, the gold dial features a miniature painting by Maryna Bossy, a specialist at La Fabrique des Arts. The process requires 32 hours of detailed painting and eight hours of firing to achieve perfection. The hand-guilloché center, crafted at Voutilainen’s workshop, reflects Louis Vuitton’s signature Damier motif. This traditional engraving technique, performed on vintage machinery, demands an exceptional level of precision and artistry.
The second time zone subdial features a breathtaking sun and moon display, with hand-engraved imagery that captures the beauty of day and night. The enamel work on the subdial required extreme skill to create a seamless gradient effect, with hidden Louis Vuitton Monogram flowers subtly woven into the design. The white gold Roman numeral hour markers and blued-steel hands add a final touch of sophistication, blending tradition with modern luxury.
At the heart of the LVKV-02 GMR 6 is a movement that reflects the highest level of horological excellence. The manual-winding GMR 6 caliber, developed at Voutilainen’s workshop, consists of 254 components and incorporates two direct-impulse escapement wheels. This innovative mechanism improves efficiency, ensuring long-term accuracy and stability. The movement’s German silver main plate and bridges, along with gold wheels, showcase the exceptional finishing that defines Voutilainen’s craftsmanship.
A unique feature of the movement is its hand-painted mainspring barrel cover, decorated with a multi-colored pattern applied by Maryna Bossy. This process requires 16 hours of meticulous work, including multiple kiln firings to achieve the vibrant final result. The ratchet applique, crafted from white gold, further enhances the watch’s aesthetic appeal, emphasizing the dedication to artistry present in every detail. The movement’s 65-hour power reserve and precision balance wheel make it an ideal companion for world travelers.
Each of the five limited-edition LVKV-02 GMR 6 watches will be presented in a custom Louis Vuitton trunk, hand-crafted in the brand’s historic Asnières workshop. The trunk is adorned with a design inspired by the watch dial, reinforcing the connection between Louis Vuitton’s trunk-making heritage and its mastery of fine watchmaking. Every trunk is painted by hand, ensuring that each piece is a one-of-a-kind work of art.
This collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Kari Voutilainen is a celebration of excellence in horology, blending innovation with time-honored craftsmanship. The LVKV-02 GMR 6 is more than a watch; it is a testament to the pursuit of perfection, designed for collectors who appreciate the art of watchmaking. With only five pieces available, this extraordinary timepiece stands as a rare and exclusive masterpiece, marking a new chapter in the legacy of both Louis Vuitton and Voutilainen.
