Time flies when having fun, and that was most certainly the case in 2018. It was an amazing year in watches, in which many new highlights were introduced. Innovation was running high, not only in regards to movements but also in terms of design and materials used. Although a near impossibility to do justice to all the great watches that we handled this year, here is a selection of Haute Time’s best photos of them, made by the talented Alex Teuscher!

Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept

While it is almost time for a new edition of the SIHH, during the past one, Piaget took our breath away with the Altiplano Ultimate Concept watch. At 2mm thick this watch looks more like a sheet of paper then a fully functional manual wind wristwatch. That also makes the superb finishing of the movement, as highlighted by this photo, all the more impressive.

Vacheron Constantin Métiers d'Art Les Aérostiers

At the SIHH Vacheron Constantin also delighted us with the Métiers d’Art Les Aérostiers. This very photogenic watch combines several crafts into a single creation that features so many details on its three-dimensional dial that it is simply mesmerizing.

Hublot Big Bang MP-11 3D Carbon

Ever the innovator, Hublot surprised us at Baselworld with the Big Bang MP-11 in 3D Carbon. It is the first time that this material is being used in a watch and it results in a case that is not only light and strong but also very good looking. Combine this with a technically advanced and stunning movement, and you give a contemporary meaning to the term Haute Horlogerie!

Patek Philippe Chronograph 7150

Technical refinement combined with utter elegance; that’s what Patek Philippe created with the Chronograph Ref.7150. Its classic dial is highlighted by the bezel set with diamonds, and with the right light, the watch can be captured on camera brilliantly!

Richard Mille RM 58-01 Tourbillon World Timer Jean Todt

Next to seeing watches at the major fairs we also took some of them to more unexpected places, such as taking a safari with the Richard Mille RM 58-01 Tourbillon World Timer Jean Todt on the wrist. A superb watch to explore Africa with and even the local wildlife approved of that.

Breguet Engine turning

2018 also brought us to the Manufacture of Breguet. Here craftsmanship is cherished, and this becomes especially clear when you see how the dials are engine-turned on ancient machines by skilled craftspeople. Applying these decorations on a mother-of-pearl dial requires considerable experience. This is also at the heart of the Haute Horlogerie, where these crafts are still playing an important part in creating new and tantalizing watches. We cannot wait to see what 2019 has in store for us!
