Haute Time Gets Up Close With the MB&F LM2

This week in New York City, Haute Time had the chance to meet with Charris Yadigaroglou, the CCO of MB&F. During his visit, we got a close up look at the otherworldly Legacy Machine No. 2.

We saw two different versions of the LM2; one in 18K red gold and one in platinum 950 (part of a limited edition of just 18 pieces that were made in platinum). While we loved both, the sky-blue dial of the platinum 950 made it our favorite.

The LM2 is a true standout thanks to its dual flying balances, which are suspended above the dial from four arced arms. Rarer still, the average rates of the LM2’s dual regulators are transmitted by a differential to a single gear train (the majority of timepieces would have two separate movements).

The dial is actually the top plate of the movement, and it features a white lacquer sub dial at 12 o’clock with blued gold hour and minute hands, and the two flying balances and their escapements. Meanwhile the raised planetary differential at 6 o’clock is a true example of MB&F’s famous micro-engineering.

While the dial is exquisite, one of our favorite views of the LM2 was on its side, which put the domed sapphire crystal cupola on full display. It also made a great vantage point for the beautiful caseback, where the names of the two men responsible for the movement (Jean-François Mojon and Kari Voutilainen) are hand engraved on the back.
