Haute Complication: Patek Philippe Ref. 5172G-010
In haute horology, vintage timepieces are integral to modern designs. Case in point: The Patek Philippe Ref. 5712G-010. First debuted at Watches and Wonders this past March, the Patek Philippe Ref. 5172G-010 is a new timepiece with vintage features, like the opaline rose-gilded dial — or the iconic “salmon dial.”

In contrast to the historical pink hue, the dial features charcoal gray Arabic numerals and syringe-type hours/minutes hands made of gold with an anthracite treatment and white luminescent coating, complemented by a small seconds display at 9 o’clock for ultimate legibility. The 41mm white gold case is fitted with a luxe alligator leather, hand-stitched deep brown strap, curating the ultimate vintage pairing.

Inside, the CH 29-535 PS chronograph caliber is distinguished by its architecture protected by six patented innovations, including optimized toothing profile, precision adjustment of engagement depth, and self-regulating zero-resetting hammers. Quite the technical feat, this movement also features several distinctive technical characteristics reflecting the same concern for functionality and performance — which can be seen through the transparent sapphire crystal case back.

As a prime example of the power of looking back to design from a fresh, new perspective, the Patek Ref. 5172G-010 is a stunning timepiece that marries the past with the present.
