Hands On The New Cabestan Triple Axis Tourbillon Watch
Cabestan burst onto the watch scene in 2003 thanks to the Vertical Winch Tourbillon, a watch that featured a unique vertical oriented movement that caught the attention of those visiting the brand at Baselworld that year. Now a regular at the watch fair, the niche brand introduced yet another groundbreaking design this year. And if it had the same impact as the first, the new watch has much greater significance.
This year, Cabestan took another giant, and bold step forward, by breaking away from its original DNA. And it has done so with in style with the Triple Axis Tourbillon.
The new watch features a curved sapphire tube protecting the unique and exclusive flying tourbillon rotating on three separate axes in 17 seconds, 19 seconds, and 60 seconds respectively. The new feature is technically brilliant and breathes life and animation into the center of the dial.
In keeping with Cabestan’s nautical design inspirations, the Triple Axis Tourbillon gets its looks from the catamaran, a sports sailboat consisting of two parallel hulls. The large sapphire lets in plenty of light and really shows off the dial and the details on the 1044 components making up Calibre EC 17, a fusée and chain movement boasting a 50 hour power reserve. The watch is quite large at 50.25mm x 45.50mm x 22.30mm but on the wrist, it fits well thanks to its shape. And let’s face it, this watch wasn’t designed to hide under the cuff.
The new Triple Axis Tourbillon is a show of intent from Cabestan, proving at once that it is not a one trick pony. After developing a strong DNA around the Vertical Winch Tourbillon, and introducing modifications to its Calibre EC101 in two more models, the Trapezium and the Luna Nera, Cabestan now shows its diversity.
Backed by the creative genius of its master watchmaker Eric Coudray, the brain behind the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyro-Tourbillon, the brand has the capacity to grow further with fresh designs. Not to mention its ability to create bespoke pieces to the delight of watch collectors who have been there from the start.
So from vertical tourbillons to moon-phases to triple axis tourbillons, Cabestan has it covered. A refreshing face in the world of watches carefully creating a growing collection while staying true to traditional watchmaking techniques.
The Triple Axis Tourbillon is available in rose gold, yellow gold, white gold, platinum, and titanium, each model limited to 135 pieces with a price tag of CHF 250,000.
