Hands On The Audemars Piguet Diamond Punk Watch (Live Pics…)
Audemars Piguet’s Diamond Punk is the brand’s latest haute joaillerie timepiece. With its sharp geometric lines, this is a watch that has a bold and rebellious attitude with lots of edge. At once edgy and elegant, Audemars Piguet’s Diamond Punk timepiece is a novelty presented recently at SIHH that pushes every boundary through its expert creative rendering. Designed by Octavio Garcia at Audemars Piguet, readers will remember our preview of another SIHH novelty by the brand: the Millenary Hand-Wound ladies watch. In the contrast, the Diamond Punk timepiece is completely dedicate to its haute couture-like aesthetic bravely reflecting the traditions and savoir-faire of the Le Brassus Manufacture.
Replete with 7,848 snow-set diamonds that defined the watch’s cutting-edge and striking geometric forms on its cuff bracelet, the Diamond Punk is engineered as unique piece of 56 glistening pyramid facets. The wearer needs to simply slide back the secret cover to reveal the enrapturing elegance of the dial, which boasts an additional 300 diamonds.
The watch was inspired by the energy of the early 1970s punk movement as well as the aesthetic Pop movement that followed, with its avant-garde and graphic forms. Like the time period it seeks to replicate, this special piece of haute joaillerie defies traditional ideas of gem-set watches and offers a veritable breaking of the rules – a motto that Audemars Piguet goes by well.
The creation of such gemstone timepieces is a challenge for any watchmaker. Made at Audemars Piguet’s Manufacture, the watch is the result of 1,440 hours of work by the brand’s highly skilled craftsmen. Each piece is a work of art. The watch breaks the mold of the classical high jewelry watch for women. It is at once strong, daring and offers through its dynamic architecture a new way to break the rules and admire creativity horlogerie for what it is. Its secret dial reads hours and adds minutes powered by a quartz caliber.
