Something Got Me Started: Four Watches To Kick-Off A Passion For Watches

Something Got Me Started: Four Watches To Kick-Off A Passion For Watches

Simply Red’s 1991 hit song “Something Got Me Started” could (with a little imagination) very well be about enthusiasts love for watches. Every seasoned connoisseur and passionate collector often have an interesting story, and fond memories, of the watch that started it all. Sometimes this watch was a gift to commemorate a special occasion, sometimes an inherited piece or one saved up for from a first job. No matter how great the watches that follow, the first will always remain special.

Of course, the watches that get it started are extremely diverse, and very personal, but here are four watches that could kick-off a serious passion for watches for different reasons.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Skeleton Chronograph

Lured in by its technical looks is the Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Skeleton Chronograph a temptation for people who like to see the mechanics of the watch. Even a glance at the time can then turn into a couple of minutes as you see all the parts moving, especially when you turn on the chronograph function. Mesmerizing, and most likely a watch that will make you want more of it.

Cartier Drive de Cartier 2

Some people just want to get one nice watch, something that they can wear at special occasions. Such people might get themselves a Drive de Cartier: a very classical watch, yet not overly so. It’s good looks and great feeling on the wrist, might extend special occasions, to every weekend, and before they know it, it is on their wrist full time. This gives them an excellent excuse to do some window shopping for a steel watch, to be worn on weekdays, and we all know where it goes from there…..

Montblanc Timewalker

The opposite is just as much true. People get themselves a more sportive watch, like the Montblanc Timewalker, because it suits their lifestyle. They get addicted to the solid feel of the sports watch around the wrist, maybe even to the compliments that they are getting from people seeing it on their wrist. But then they have a formal occasion, and although sports watches and suits (even tuxedoes) are fully accepted these days, it does offer an opportunity to look for another watch in addition to the sports watch, just to have all the bases covered.

TAG Heuer Formula 1

Sometimes a passion for watches is induced the quartz way. A passion for cars can lead to the purchase or gift of a TAG-Heuer Formula 1. A reliable and robust watch, which will be a loyal companion on the wrist no matter where life takes you, but in many cases also wets the appetite for more. It is one of those timepieces that can be considered a “gateway watch,” and before you know it you are standing in front of a TAG-Heuer retailer looking at the new Autavia, and we can say: Something got you started and welcome to the club!
