With summer getting in full swing, the temperatures are rising, not only outside but also at Harry Winston. While this brand is mainly known for its exquisite jewelry and large diamonds of exceptional quality, they also have an impressive collection of watches. In the Ocean Collection, two new models just joined the line-up, representing summer at its best while also paying tribute to the Project Z10 watch. Harry Winston started with its Project Z timepieces in 2004. They aimed at combining innovative materials with tantalizing complications, a strategy they have stayed loyal to ever since.

Zalium Variation Yellow and Orange both have a 42.2mm large case made from Zalium. This rare metal alloy is non-toxic, very light, and extremely resistant to corrosion. As a result, it is also very hard to machine, making it challenging to create watch cases from. It was initially used for the Z-1, the first non-precious metal watch of the Harry Winston. The alloy is developed by Ronald Winston, a chemical engineer and at the time also President of the company.

The open-worked dial of the new watches is inspired by the Manhattan Bridge, infusing them with the American heritage of the brand. A small subdial at twelve o’clock shows the hours and minutes, while the date window is placed at six o’clock. It is flanked by a seconds hand on the left and a day indicator on the right, both with a retrograde function. The strap is a combination of alligator leather on a rubber base, in a color complimenting that of the dial and hands. With their 42.2 mm diameter are these Harry Winston timepieces making quite a visual impact, yet their height of only 10.6 mm is testimony to their Haute Horlogerie pedigree. It is also not afraid of water as a genuine sports watch, resisting it up to 10 bar. Harry Winston will make only 100 pieces of the Zalium Variation in either yellow or orange.
