Ahead of the Watches & Wonders’ Palexpo doors opening tomorrow, Bulgari brings us some rather exciting news: The Octo Finissimo Ultra has once again shattered the confines of high-end mechanical watchmaking by setting a new world standard for slimness. Two years ago in Geneva, Bulgari battled it out, setting the 2022 record (against Piaget) with a record thickness of 1.89mm. And today, Bulgari returns to Geneva triumphant once again.
With its unparalleled thickness of just 1.70 millimeters, this timepiece is a testament to Bulgari’s bold innovation and relentless pursuit of breaking new ground. This ninth-world record holder is not only the thinnest mechanical watch in existence but also boasts the title of the world’s slimmest COSC chronometer, merging the pinnacle of precision with groundbreaking design.
To achieve this, it required a complete reimagining of mechanical watch design, balancing extreme slimness with the durability necessary to withstand shocks and magnetic fields. Bulgari’s collaboration with Concepto, a leader in complex mechanisms, and its own R&D department, pushed beyond previous limits, inspired by the belief that the boundaries of watchmaking are meant to be exceeded.
This COSC-certified achievement is not merely about technical prowess but also about Bulgari’s dedication to the art of the extraordinary. The Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC’s case back doubles as the mainplate, a foundation for the 170 meticulously assembled components of the manually wound BVL180 manufacture caliber. This design not only demonstrates Bulgari’s commitment to precision but also to the elegant integration of form and function, where even the case back/mainplate material is chosen for its density and resilience.
Furthermore, the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC enhances its functionality with a large barrel ensuring a 50-hour power reserve and an escapement that maximizes the watch’s spatial design. The introduction of a miniaturized Datamatrix, which holds a wealth of data about the watch, invites owners into the Bulgari universe, providing insight into the craftsmanship and innovation that define the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC.

The collaboration between Tadao Ando and Bulgari on the Serpenti Tubogas collection introduces a series of limited edition watches that embody the transient beauty of nature through the seasons.
