Alain Delon’s Vintage Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Sells For €68,750

vintage Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo once belonging to French Actor Alain Delon sold for a record price of €68,750.

The sale price is even more spectacular when taken into consideration that Delon’s Royal Oak Jumbo doesn’t have the dial with the AP logo at 6 o’clock, which the new Jumbo does have. The auctioneers website also didn’t mention whether the vintage timepiece is an A-series for one of the later B, C or D-series.

Last month, a sought-after A-series with 6 o’clock dial from 1972 sold for the absolute record price of €31,200—that is, until Delon’s watch came along.

Delon wore the wristwatch while filming several movies, including  “Comme un boomerang” (1976) and “Ne reveillez pas un flic qui dort” (1988). The estimated sale price of the piece was a mere €2,500 to €3,000. It was sold to an Asian buyer, according to French Web site Le Point.

During the auction, the sale of his Cartier Tank also set a new recording—selling for the exact same price. The 18-carat gold rare model has sides of Lapiz Lazuli and is engraved with Delon’s initials. The estimated sale price was €1,600 to €1,800 and also sold to an Asian buyer. Delon’s movies are reportedly immensely popular in Asian countries.
