A Revolution At Lange & Söhne With A Rubber Strap For The Odysseus

A Revolution At Lange & Söhne With A Rubber Strap For The Odysseus

Last year Lange & Söhne surprised us by introducing the Odysseus, not only the brand’s first sports watch, but also their first regular-production timepiece in stainless steel. It combined a large date with a day-indicator as well, while a subdial for the seconds gave the watch a touch of vintage flair. These ingredients haven’t changed for the latest addition to the collection, apart from the fact that its case is now crafted from white gold, features a new color dial, and comes on a rubber strap.

Lange & Söhne paid special care to the design of the rubber strap. At the front, it matches the shape of the links with a subtle reference to the dial pattern, while on the back particular attention was paid to its wearing comfort with a construction that allows air to come through. Lange & Söhne also changed the dial of the Odysseus to grey and gave it a prominent stamped pattern, making it distinctly different from the dial the stainless steel model has. It provides the watch with a bit more character, but it also makes it rather classic looking in comparison to its sportive strap.

Despite its precious nature remains the Odysseus a very capable sports watch. It has a water resistance of 120 meters, as well as a movement that features a full bridge over the balance wheel, a first for the brand. Caliber L155.1 further has all the hallmarks of a Lange & Söhne movement, such a three-quarter plate, engravings on the balance bridge, blued screws, and overall an exceptional finish. Next to the rubber strap does Lange & Söhne also introduce a rustic looking leather strap to which one can switch in a heartbeat thanks to a quick-release system. A white gold bracelet is currently not in the works, as this would come at a hefty premium, but different strap options might become available in the near future. We honestly would love to see the Odysseus in white gold on a grey alligator to match the dial. This might push the watch more into the realm of a dress watch, the contrary of Lange & Söhne’s intentions, but we think that it could be a match made in heaven.
