Roger Dubuis And Kaz Shirane Join Forces For Stunning Excalibur Superbia

Roger Dubuis is a brand that loves a challenge, wither it be technical or aesthetically of nature. For the new Excalibur Superbia, the brand joined forces with internationally renowned Japanese artist and architect Kaz Shirane and created a gemstone setting unlike any seen before. Six hundred diamonds and blue sapphires, with a total of 11 carats, decorate the case. However, they do not feature a baguette or brilliant-cut, but a tetrahedron cut instead. This triangular form is incredibly complex to cut and represents the diamond’s basic atomic building blocks’ shape.

To make matters even more challenging, do they have to be set on curved surfaces using an invisible setting. The diamonds and blue sapphires do not follow a repeating sequence. This makes the Excalibur Superbia even more vibrant in appearance. According to Roger Dubuis, the amount of time needed to create the watch is mind-boggling, as only setting the case and bezel with gemstones takes 420 hours. This does not include cutting the stones or making the grooves in the palladium-white gold case in which the gemstones are placed.

The Excalibur Superbia is powered by caliber RD108SQ. This movement is an updated version of caliber RD105SW, which was the brand’s first skeletonized movement in which two flying tourbillons were connected with a differential. The movement also receives a diamond treatment as the star-shaped bridge is set with these precious gemstones, which can also be found at the back of the case. While the Excalibur Superbia is a piece unique, it is part of Roger Dubuis‘ Unique series. Within this collection, clients can customize a watch to meet their own taste and preference, ensuring exclusivity.
