For The Love Of Gold!

There is a lot to say for the discrete color of white gold, but sometimes you just want gold to be gold. You want the pure look of yellow gold or the rich tones of rose gold, and not only for the case but for the bracelet as well. Sometimes you want to go all in, and these watches are all the way with you for that!

Gold and Rolex are nearly synonymous of each other, as no other Swiss watch brand makes as many gold watches as they do. The picture above illustrates the striking difference between the two-tone and the full gold version of the GMT-Master II. Rolex developed the Everose gold themselves in 2005, and this alloy has a very rich look to it, which goes perfect with the black dial and brown and black Cerachrom bezel insert in ceramic of the watch.

Patek Philippe is no stranger to the use of gold as well, and they showcase their skills in that area perfectly with the ref. 5270/1R manual wind perpetual calendar chronograph. By combining the rose gold case with a black sunburst dial, it amplifies the rich color. While this would look great on a black strap, Patek Philippe opted for a gold ‘Goutte’ bracelet, who’s five-link design looks robust, yet follows the curve of the wrist perfectly for optimum wearing comfort.

Omega uses their proprietary Sedna gold, a mixture of gold, copper, and palladium, for their Seamaster Aqua-Terra 150M. By combining different finishes throughout the case and the bracelet, they highlight the simple, yet powerful profile of this Seamaster. Technically it is anything but simply because the automatic caliber 8901 is fitted with a co-axial escapement, and is certified as a Master-Chronometer by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

The full-gold Santos de Cartier became a legend when it was on the wrist of Michael Douglas, while playing his Oscar-winning role of Gordon Gekko in the cult-classic ‘Wallstreet’. The design of the Santos, with its bracelet with prominent screws seems to be made to be crafted from gold, and highlights the unique qualities of the precision metal perfectly.
