A. Lange & Söhne Errs On The Sporty Side With The Odysseus Honeygold
At Watches & Wonders Geneva 2025, A. Lange & Söhne elevates its sporty-elegant Odysseus line with a new iteration: the Odysseus Honeygold. Limited to just 100 pieces, this timepiece melds a 750 honey-gold (HONEYGOLD®) case and bracelet with a rich brown dial, exuding a warmth and sophistication that sets it apart. Since its debut in 2019 as the Glashütte manufacture’s first foray into the luxury sports watch realm, the Odysseus has embodied precision and durability for active lifestyles. Now, cloaked in Lange’s exclusive alloy, it stakes a bold claim as a benchmark in stylish resilience.
The Odysseus Honeygold introduces Lange’s proprietary 18-carat honey-gold alloy to the collection’s bracelet for the first time. Known for its hardness—surpassing other gold alloys—and its distinctive warm hue, derived from a unique blend of gold, copper, and zinc, honey gold has been a hallmark of Lange’s most exclusive creations since 2010. The 40.5mm case, standing 11.1mm high, pairs this lustrous metal with a five-row bracelet that integrates seamlessly, offering exceptional comfort. A safety deployant buckle with a pusher allows for a 7mm length adjustment without opening, while additional links can be added or removed for a tailored fit. It’s a design that balances rugged utility with refined elegance, underscored by the interplay of brushed surfaces and chamfered edges on both the case and bracelet.

The brown dial—a fourth color variant for the Odysseus—complements the honey-gold case with a subtle, sophisticated gleam. Honey-gold lancet-shaped hands and notched baton markers, luminous for low-light legibility, sweep across an embossed groove structure that lends a three-dimensional effect. The outsize date at 3 o’clock and day-of-week display at 9 o’clock, both 2.4mm high, pop in white against the brown backdrop, framed by subtly gleaming sub-dials. A red “60” on the gold-colored flange’s minute scale adds a dash of vibrancy, while the subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock reinforces the dial’s balanced asymmetry. The narrow bezel maximizes the dial’s presence, amplifying its sporty yet elegant persona.

Powering the Odysseus Honeygold is the self-winding Calibre L155.1 DATOMATIC, a 312-part movement designed for reliability across sports and leisure. The name—visible on the skeletonized, black-rhodiumed rotor with a 950 platinum centrifugal mass—marries “date” and “automatic,” reflecting its dual strengths. A unidirectional winding rotor ensures efficient energy delivery, yielding a 50-hour power reserve when fully wound. Beating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), the balance features four recessed poising screws to minimize turbulence, paired with an in-house balance spring for optimal rate accuracy. Unlike other Lange calibres, it’s secured by a balance bridge—hand-engraved with a wave pattern nodding to its 12-bar (120-meter) water resistance—rather than a cock.
Through the sapphire caseback, the movement’s artisanal finish shines: untreated German silver plates and bridges, blued screws, and a screwed gold chaton above the escape wheel. Assembled twice to Lange’s exacting standards, it’s a mechanical marvel that thrives under pressure. “With the Odysseus, we laid the foundation for our latest watch family in 2019,” says CEO Wilhelm Schmid. “This new model in honey gold reflects our ambition to never stand still.”
Since its 2019 launch, the Odysseus has carved a niche with its robust yet refined design—120-meter water resistance, a screw-down crown flanked by tapered pushers, and large day/date displays. The Odysseus Honeygold builds on this legacy, its 750 honey-gold construction adding a layer of exclusivity and warmth. Limited to 100 pieces, it’s a collector’s prize, with pricing likely exceeding $50,000 given its materials and lineage (previous Odysseus models in precious metals hover in this range). Unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2025, it joins a family that includes stainless steel, white gold, and titanium variants, yet it stands out for its cohesive honey-gold aesthetic.
