Introducing The IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month In Collaboration “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”

IWC Schaffhausen has teamed up with Warner Bros. Pictures for the much-anticipated film “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” In celebration of this partnership, IWC has introduced the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month, inspired by the striking red and blue glowing watches featured in the film. This remarkable diver’s watch is presented in two limited editions, each consisting of only 25 pieces, and boasts a commanding 49-millimeter Ceratanium® case, a black dial, and a black rubber strap. One version is adorned with red Super-LumiNova® elements, while the other gleams with blue. These watches also come equipped with a perpetual calendar, digital date, month display, and a chronograph function, all powered by the IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber.

For the film, IWC’s experimental division XPL, known for pioneering advancements in materials and G-protection, provided the film’s villains, Black Manta (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Dr. Stephen Shin (played by Randall Park), with prop watches that emit a captivating red and blue glow. These prop watches served as the inspiration for two remarkable limited editions within the Aquatimer collection.

The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is available in two variations, both featuring black dials and black hands. These watches pay homage to the luminous colors of the movie prop watches: one edition (Ref. IW379405) features red Super-LumiNova® elements on the dial, hands, and inner rotating bezel for dive time tracking, while the other edition (Ref. IW379406) showcases blue accents. Super-LumiNova® is a cutting-edge ceramic compound infused with luminous pigments that harnesses the power of phosphorescence. It absorbs light energy, stores it, and emits it as visible light, making the material glow brightly in the dark or underwater. Both limited editions are encased in IWC’s patented Ceratanium®, with a substantial 49mm diameter that makes them some of the largest watches ever produced by IWC.

Ceratanium® is a high-performance material that combines the lightweight properties and structural integrity of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic. Developed according to IWC’s specifications, this special titanium alloy undergoes precision machining and high-temperature firing, resulting in a surface with ceramic-like properties and its distinctive color.

The focal point of the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watches is their perpetual calendar with digital displays. The date and month are presented in a digital format, making it remarkably easy to read. This perpetual calendar is mechanically programmed to recognize varying month lengths and leap years automatically, ensuring that the combination “29” and “02” appears only once every four years on the dial. The IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber powers this calendar complication through a single nightly switching impulse. Additionally, these watches offer a chronograph function, with stopped hours and minutes displayed in a totalizer at 12 o’clock for enhanced readability. With a double pawl winding system, the oscillating mass generates energy in both directions, efficiently building up a power reserve of 68 hours. The rotor, designed with technical aesthetics in mind, is blackened through an intricate nickel-plating process and can be admired through the transparent sapphire glass case back.

The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month features IWC’s innovative external/internal rotating bezel system, designed to help divers manage their oxygen levels and prevent surfacing too quickly. This system combines the inner bezel’s enhanced legibility with the external bezel’s ease of use. To prevent unintended changes in dive time, the IWC SafeDive system ensures that the outer bezel can only be turned counterclockwise. Even if a diver accidentally adjusts the bezel, the dive time remains accurate, and there’s no risk of exceeding the safe time for surfacing without decompression stops. Additionally, like all Aquatimer models, these watches feature IWC’s bracelet quick-change system, allowing for easy replacement of the black rubber strap.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is set in a world that seamlessly blends reality with fantasy, requiring meticulous attention to detail.
