Richard Mille Dives Into The Deep Blue With Arnaud Jerald

With Arnaud Jerald, Richard Mille is welcoming the youngest two-time world record holder in free diving to its family of ambassadors. While being only 25 years old, Jerald is one of the most promising talents in this sport. Diving without air, he reached an incredible depth of 112 meters last year in Greece. Freediving is as much about physical fitness as it is about mental attitude. You have to be very focused, yet at the same time become one with the ocean. It opens up a world few people get to experience so freely and quietly. A wetsuit, a set of flippers, and a nose clip are all you need to free dive, but a watch can be an essential addition in terms of safety.

Jerald’s story getting into freediving is a special one: ‘I felt left out at school. I had no confidence in myself and even worse was my hypersensitivity towards noise. Then, at age 7, my parents took me to the creeks around Marseille. I put on a mask and snorkel, and there, underwater, for the very first time I opened my eyes. I was afraid – not of having no air – no, I was afraid of being so free! I suddenly became strong. I flew through the water like Peter Pan, totally weightless … That’s when I decided I was going to be a professional free diver!’  What makes this story even more special, is that when he spotted the RM 032, he knew that it was the watch for him and he reached out to Richard Mille, and a partnership was forged.

While there is no shortage of diving watches in the world, the RM 032 is exceptional. It combines a 300-meter water resistance with a flyback chronograph and annual calendar. The diving bezel is fitted with a unique system, ensuring that it always stays in the place where its set. With a diameter of 50mm is the RM 032 pleasantly oversized, allowing it to bring all the information athletes like Jerald need to achieve the impossible.
