Mouawad Bedecks Victoria’s Secret Runway Angels with $12 Million in Jewels
Mouawad, the 126-year-old diamond and jewelry company has had a decade-and-a-half relationship with Victoria’s Secret – usually bedecking certain models in stunning gemstone-adorned bras as they walk the runway in the annual “Angels” catwalk parade of lingerie. In fact, the Sexy Fancy bra made in 2003 made its way into the Guinness World Records as the most expensive piece of lingerie ever made at $11 million. This year, Mouawad took a different approach to the runway—carefully curating a $12 million selection of some of its finest suites of jewelry to accessorize the Angels with on the runway.
Among the masterpieces making their way onto stage are the Mouawad Augusta Marquise diamond suite, the Scarlet Love diamond and rubellite suite and the magnificent Pristine Colombian briolette diamond and emerald suite. Each piece of Mouawad jewelry is meticulously hand crafted in 18-karat gold and each stone is individually set by hand.
Each of these exquisite necklaces, bracelets earrings and some rings made their way down the catwalk at last night’s runway show in the City of Lights. Millions of viewers also tuned in to watch the show – one of the hottest tickets in Paris – being aired live around the world.
“Each jewel in the collection was as beautiful and inspiring as the angel wearing it,” says Pascal Mouawad, co-custodian of the 4th-generation family owned Mouawad brand. “We are very proud to participate once again in the parade, and as such have selected over $ 12 million of our most spectacular plays for this year’s theme,” he added.
Mouawad’s first collaboration with Victoria’s Secret began in 2001, when Heidi Klum wore the first Fantasy Bra named Heavenly Star. Mouawad is co-operated by three brothers, Fred, Pascal and Alain Mouawad, and its elegant jewelry has graced royalty and high society around the world. The brand also creates timepieces and is a diamond manufacturer through its joint venture Premier Diamond Alliance.
The brand has been honored in Guinness four times, with the most recent title of creating the world’s largest diamond necklace. Called “The Incomparable,” that necklace consists of 407.48 carats of diamonds and is valued at $55 million.
