Jason Sarkoyan: Urwerk Manufacture Visit in Geneva
Geneva, Switzerland – the home of fine watchmaking, where the biggest names in watchmaking have their headquarters. Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Breguet, and Vacheron constantin are just the few brands that are established in Switzerland. My journey on this trip began with me leaving from LAX straight to Geneva.
As soon as I landed in Geneva I called my buddy Eduard who is a watch enthusiast and blogger. We shared a few words over the phone about having dibner on Lake Geneva to catch up, and during our conversation he invited me to see the Urwerk factory, to meet Felix, and see some of the manufacturing stages.
I quickly grabbed my bags from the gates and rushed over to the Urwerk manufacture. It was not long before I laid eyes on this truly one-of-a-kind manufacture. I could not believe my eyes – I was spending time at one of the most exclusive manufactures in Switzerland. Right there in front of me was Felix brainstorming and sharing a few words with his watchmaking team of only 5 people.
I was truly amazed by the feeling that you get when you walk into the manufacture – everyone there seems like a family. Throughout the factory everyone was working closely on new projects while enjoying each others company. While I was occupied taking a few picture with my buddy, I was closely watching how Urwerk was assembling their watches. You could see the passion in the eyes of their watchmakers. Nothing distracted them for a moment. Everything was done with precision, focus, and quality. They left no room for shortcuts or breaks.
Eduard (Instagram @mrwatchguide) showed me the new EMC and the new rose gold Urwerk UR-210. I was pretty impressed by the functions of the new Urwerk EMC watch. From what I understand the new EMC gives you the option to obtain reliable and accurate data about the watch, and based on the data you can make changed to revive the watches accuracy and functionality. The new EMC has changed the whole game for watches and now that the Urwerk team has created something this impressive the sky is the limit for their unique company.
Stay tuned for part 2 and 3 of my trip to Geneva next week on Haute Time!
