Since the World Cup in Brazil, Romero Britto and Hublot have been working together. A new launch, namely the Hublot Classic Fusion Enamel Britto, at Baselworld 2015, strengthened the collaboration of the Swiss watchmaker and the Brazilian artist, painter and sculptor, who created the iconic multicolored football for 2014 Fifa World Cup.

Hublot pushes the boundaries of fine watchmaking by creating a link between the traditional art of “grand feu” enameling and contemporary art movements of Pop Art and Cubism, found in the work of Romero Britto.

The dial is a striking work of art where Hublot’s expert enamellist works with enamel in the same way as Britto works with acrylics. Only 12 opaque colours, which are sensitive to firing, are selected by the enamellist, from a total of 250 hues in the colour palette. A challenge to create in miniature all of the energy of Britto’s art, the champlevé enamel on the dial perfectly reproduces the artist’s designs. Actually, the enamel is sectioned into ‘cloisons’ or cells, rendered almost invisible in the delicate craftsmanship. Polished hands point to the hours and minutes while the small seconds indicator is positioned at 7 o’clock.

Art on the wrist, not on the wall. Now, that’s really cool! A piece of work by the renowned Romero Britto, which also tells the time. With a diameter size of 45 mm, the Hublot Classic Fusion Enamel Britto showcases the art work to its fullest. A dressy timepiece which is also versatile in a sense that, it can actually be carried off with great panache for almost any occasion.

A sapphire crystal with interior/exterior anti-reflective coating reveals the in-house CLASSICO HUB1302 hand-wound movement. Depending on the version of the timepiece, it is enclosed in polished ceramic or circular-grained satin-finished platinum. The Hublot Classic Fusion Enamel Britto has a power reserve of approximately 90 hours and is water resistant to around 50 meters. Britto’s signature on the caseback gives it that extra special touch.

Naturally, a timepiece with such artistic specifications demands a modish black alligator strap, which is stitched onto rubber. The Classic Fusion Enamel Britto is a limited edition timepiece, which comes in two versions. It is limited to 50 pieces in the ceramic model and to 30 pieces for the platinum version.
