Best In Show: The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève 2015

Dubbed the “Oscars of the watch industry,” the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève was held in the Grand Théâtre de Genève, on Oct. 29. The 15th edition of the GPHG, hosted this year by Frédéric Beigbeder and Gaspard Proust, celebrated the industry’s most inventive, innovative and well-executed watches of the year, “and the vitality of watchmaking culture around the world,” according to Carlo Lamprecht, president of the GPHG Foundation.

The jury of the GPHG awarded the event’s top prize, the “Aiguille D’Or,” to the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision from Greubel Forsey. Since the winners were selected by secret ballot, no one—not even the jury—knew whom the winners of this year’s GPHG would be. Prior to the ceremony, some of the members of the jury opened up to us at Haute Time during an unprecedented debate with the public.

“It’s human nature to judge,” said Michael Tay, managing director of The Hour Glass. “But the Grand Prix makes us, members of the jury, very humble. When you have someone like Philippe Dufour in front of you, you leave the conversation knowing more than you did at the start of it. It’s the quality of the debate which allows us to make a final decision.”

The winning timepieces were flown to London to be put on display in London’s Saatchi Gallery during UK watch exhibition, SalonQP. Last year, the Breguet Classique Chronométrie took home the prize.
