Baselworld 2015: Hublot Unveils $10 million Big Bang Collection
In the Spring Issue of Haute Time magazine, available online since Tuesday, we sat down with Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, to look at the evolution of the Big Bang watch launched at Baselworld in 2005. Ten years later, the now iconic design is once again the star of the show at the Hublot booth with new models led by the Big Bang Unico “10 years” Haute Joaillerie, an exceptional collection of 10 high jewelry watches, each priced at $ 1 million.
That’s ten six-figure watches, but they hide many, many more digits. Four models stand out from the collection: The “Black Diamonds” (41,84 carats), “White Diamonds” (40,02 carats), “White Diamonds And Blue Sapphires” (40,41 carats) and the “White Diamonds And Rubis” (40,93 carats).
The full 10-piece collection totals a whopping 2612 diamonds set using the most complex techniques known to the watch industry. Each piece features 132 baguettes with invisible setting, 127 diamonds set on a rail, and 394 diamonds with a Clou de Paris setting, and each requires 350 hours (or more than two weeks).
But the greatest gem is hidden inside the watch. Indeed, the Big Bang Unico “10 Years” Haute Joaillerie houses the HUB 1242 UNICO movement, developped and manufactured in-house by Hublot. Featuring a automatic flyback chronograph with column wheel and double clutch, it powers the watch for 72 hours.
By design, the Big Bang is free to create any universe it desires, so while the Big Bang Unico “10 Years” Haute Joaillerie looks nothing like the original model from 2005, it conveys the spirit of its visionary creator. As usual, there was plenty more to see from Hublot, and we will get to each piece individually.
